Insert the information in the form and the calculator will determine the deceleration.
What is the deceleration?
Deceleration is the amount of speed reduction by a specific object in a specific time period. In simple words it is the opposite of acceleration and it's unit is m/s².
How to calculate deceleration?
To calculate deceleration you should use the following formula:
Deceleration = (final velocity - initial velocity) / time
Example: A train is traveling at 73 kilometers per hour, when the breaks are applied the train stops after 10 seconds, calculate the deceleration?
Using the deceleration formula the answer will be:
Deceleration = (final velocity - initial velocity) / time
Deceleration = (0 - 73) / 10
Deceleration = -7.3 km/s^2
To convert into m/s^2 you should muliply by 1000
Deceleration = -7.3 km/s^2 * 1000
Deceleration = -7300 m/s^2
Why use deceleration?
The deceleration is used in order to reduce the speed on an objection a specific time period.
